A miniseries retelling the original Kanto games, with Red in place of Ash. Professor Oak gives Red and his rival Blue a Pokédex and a starter, and Red picks Charmander. After losing to Blue, he learns from Brock the value of bonding with Pokémon and wins his first badge. In Lavender Town, he helps an orphaned Cubone say goodbye to its mother's spirit, a victim of Team Rocket. Then he storms Silph Co., beats Giovanni at the Viridian Gym and shuts down Team Rocket's plans. Red defeats the Elite Four and Blue, already the Champion, and faces a Mewtwo using Charizard's Mega Evolution.
