Quick recap

Miss Marple spends two weeks in London at Bertram's, a hotel that seems frozen in the Edwardian era. Staying there are the adventurer Bess Sedgwick, Elvira Blake, the daughter she walked away from, and the absent-minded Canon Pennyfather, who suddenly vanishes. That same night, the Irish Mail train is robbed, and witnesses swear the canon was there. With Chief Inspector Davy, Miss Marple finds out the hotel is a front for a gang that uses look-alikes of respectable guests to pull off heists. The doorman, Michael Gorman, Bess's ex-husband, is shot dead. Bess confesses to the robberies and the killing and dies in a car crash while fleeing. Miss Marple doesn't buy it: she thinks Elvira pulled the trigger.
