Full story
Peter Parker is a shy high school nerd in New York. He lives with his aunt and uncle, May and Ben, and has been in love with the girl next door, Mary Jane Watson, since childhood. His best friend is Harry Osborn, son of industrialist Norman Osborn. On a field trip to a genetics lab at Columbia University, a genetically engineered spider bites Peter. The next morning he wakes up without needing glasses, muscled, sticking to walls and shooting webs from his wrists.
Meanwhile, Norman tests a strength-boosting serum on himself to keep a military contract. The formula works but drives him insane, and he kills the scientist who was helping him. A second personality is born, cruel and full of cackling.
Peter wants to buy a car to impress Mary Jane, so he enters a wrestling tournament. He wins, but the promoter stiffs him on the payout. When a thief robs the place, Peter lets him go. Minutes later, the same thief kills Uncle Ben. Peter chases him down and the man falls to his death. His uncle's lesson sticks: with great power comes great responsibility. Peter sews a costume and becomes Spider-Man. To pay the bills, he sells photos of the hero to J. Jonah Jameson at the Daily Bugle, who paints Spider-Man as a menace.
Oscorp's board pushes Norman out of the company. In green armor on a glider, he kills the board members at a street festival, and the Bugle names him the Green Goblin. The Goblin offers Spider-Man a partnership and, when he's turned down, figures out who Spider-Man is. He attacks Aunt May at home. Mary Jane starts dating Harry but grows closer to Peter and falls for the hero, who keeps saving her.
In the final battle, the Goblin dangles Mary Jane and a tram full of kids from the Queensboro Bridge and forces Spider-Man to choose. He saves both, with help from New Yorkers throwing things at the villain. In an abandoned building, Norman shows his face and asks for forgiveness, but it's a setup: he sends the glider at Peter, who jumps, and it impales Norman instead. Before he dies, he asks Peter not to tell Harry. At the funeral, Harry swears revenge on Spider-Man. Mary Jane confesses her love, but Peter tells her they can only be friends and walks away, accepting the weight of the mask.
