Full story
Maya Lopez is deaf, an amputee, and has roots in the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. As a child she lost her mother, Taloa, in a car crash caused by criminals. Her father, William, took her to New York and became a commander in the Tracksuit Mafia, working for Wilson Fisk. Fisk treated Maya like a niece and trained her for crime. Years later, William was killed by Ronin, and Maya learned that Fisk himself had set it all up. She shot him in the face.
Five months later, Maya goes back to Tamaha, the hometown she left long ago. Her cousin Biscuits is there, along with her uncle Henry, her cousin Bonnie, and her grandmother Chula, with whom she has old wounds. Maya wants to take down Fisk's operations in the area and seize his empire. With Biscuits's help, she hijacks a cargo train and blows up a shipment of Kingpin's weapons. Henry warns her that this war will end up hitting the family, but she does not listen.
Throughout the series, flashbacks show Choctaw women from the past who had visions of their ancestors and whose hands glowed in moments of danger. Maya starts having the same visions. Meanwhile, the family is in danger: one of Henry's employees works for Fisk, and Maya, Henry, and Bonnie end up held hostage. Then Fisk shows up in town, alive. He offers Maya control of his New York empire and reveals part of his past, telling her he killed his father after seeing him beat his mother.
In the finale, Fisk kidnaps Chula and Bonnie during a powwow. Biscuits uses a monster truck to take out the henchmen, Henry kills Fisk's right-hand man, and Maya shares her ancestral power with her grandmother and cousin. Instead of killing Fisk, she uses that gift to pull him into a childhood memory and tries to heal his trauma. Fisk walks away shaken and angry, not understanding what she did, and leaves before the police arrive.
Maya makes peace with her family and her roots. In the post-credits scene, Fisk watches a news report saying the New York mayoral race has no clear front-runner, and it is obvious he is thinking about getting into politics.
