Obsidian

Katy Swartz moves with her mom to Petersburg, West Virginia, right before senior year. Her neighbor Dee becomes a fast friend. Dee's twin brother, Daemon, is gorgeous and rude. When a stranger attacks Katy, Daemon freezes time with a wave of his hand and saves her. She learns the Black siblings are Luxen, aliens made of light, and that the Arum hunt the Luxen to steal their powers. Contact with Daemon leaves a glowing trace on Katy that draws those enemies in. She learns obsidian kills the Arum. In the end, Katy uses her own glow to lure the Arum away from Dee, and the three win the fight in a field. Daemon suggests they date. Katy tells him to shove it.

   In July 2013, Sierra Pictures optioned Obsidian for a film. The project never got made.

2. Behind the scenesNow it's a show

   The rights went back to the author. In September 2025, Amazon MGM Studios announced a series covering all five books, run by Smallville's Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders. As of August 2026 it had no cast and no date.

   Valentina published the Brazilian edition, Obsidiana, in 2015, translated by Camila Pohlmann. The rest followed through 2018, and two got new titles: Originais and Opostos.

   Obsidian, a volcanic glass, is the weapon against the Arum in this book. All five novels have O titles, and several stones end up mattering to the plot.

   Daemon and Dee had a third sibling, Dawson, who supposedly died after falling for a human girl. Keep that story in mind.
