Quick recap

In May 2020, billionaire Miles Bron invites his friends, the Disruptors, to a murder-mystery game on his Greek island. Among them is his ousted business partner, Andi Brand. Benoit Blanc turns up too, though nobody called him. Solving the game is easy. But when someone dies for real, Blanc sees that every guest has a motive. A secret hides in a note on a napkin, and whoever finds it can bring Miles down. The game starts as a lark, with puzzle boxes and wealthy guests, and ends in an explosion of secrets.

Hidden details

  1. ReferenceThe Beatles song

The title comes from the Beatles song Glass Onion, which plays over the end credits. Johnson chose "glass" because glass is clear, and the idea was something hidden in plain sight.

  2. Behind the scenesWritten in lockdown

Johnson wrote the script in 2020, during lockdown. Greece came from wanting to travel while borders were closed. Filming began on the island of Spetses.

  3. ReferenceThe Last of Sheila blueprint

Johnson cited The Last of Sheila (1973) and the 1982 Agatha Christie adaptation Evil Under the Sun. In both, friends gather at a vacation spot and one of them dies.
