The plague killing the gnomes comes from parasites tied to their sacred trees, and the ogre king's cure is another trap. Fintan reveals that Alvar, Fitz and Biana's brother, is a traitor. Calla becomes a Panakes tree, which yields the real cure. In the end Keefe joins the Neverseen. Ordered to brand Sophie, he sends her away to safety and stays. Mr. Forkle and Granite reveal they are Magnate Leto and Sir Tiergan.
