Quick recap

In a Manhattan coffee shop, Reacher watches a man unlock a Mercedes and drive off. A day later he is approached and taken to The Dakota, where he meets Edward Lane, head of a private military company. Lane's wife, Kate, and her daughter, Jade, have been kidnapped, and the man Reacher saw was the kidnapper. Lane pays $25,000 a month for Reacher, a former military investigator, to help find them. The ransom rises from $1 million to $5 million and then another $4.5 million, with no victims returned. The trail runs through Lane's past and ends in England.
