Quick recap

In a savage South Dakota winter, the bus Reacher is on skids out and is stranded. He helps the driver, Jay Knox, and local deputy Andrew Peterson get the elderly tourists to the town of Bolton, home to one of the country's largest prisons. In case of an escape or riot, the town's police must report to the prison, which would leave retired librarian Janet Salter unprotected from a gang of meth dealers. Reacher agrees to help and calls his old unit, where he is put through to its newest commanding officer.
