Quick recap

Five years on, Berk lives for dragon racing. Hiccup, now 20, is dodging the idea of becoming chief and spends his days mapping new lands with Toothless. He runs into Eret, a trapper who catches dragons for Drago, a warlord building a dragon army. Hiccup finds his mother, Valka, alive after 20 years caring for dragons under the protection of a giant alpha. Drago arrives with his own alpha, defeats Valka's and takes control of the dragons. Under its sway, Toothless fires at Hiccup, and Stoick dies shielding his son. Toothless breaks free, takes on Drago's alpha and becomes the new leader of the dragons. Hiccup becomes chief of Berk.
