Astrid

Astrid wants to be the best in Gobber's training and takes it all seriously. When clumsy Hiccup starts beating every dragon with ease, she gets suspicious and tails him into the woods.

She finds Toothless. Before she can tell the village, Hiccup takes her on a flight through the clouds, and Astrid gets what he's learned. She also sees the dragons' nest and the giant queen. In the final battle, she flies in on a dragon with the others.

At the dragon academy, Astrid is Hiccup's right hand. She rides Stormfly, a dragon with venomous tail spines, and is the most disciplined rider in the group, always ready for a fight.

In Race to the Edge, the years away from Berk bring Astrid and Hiccup closer. In the final season, after the war with the dragon hunters, they finally become a couple.

When Hiccup becomes chief, Astrid keeps him grounded. She's the one who reminds him he can stand on his own without Toothless. When the dragons leave for the Hidden World, the two marry. Years later, they take their two kids to meet Toothless.

In the 2025 live-action film, Nico Parker plays Astrid. She follows the first film's path: the suspicious rival who uncovers the secret and flies with Hiccup.

Astrid isn't in Cressida Cowell's books. There, Hiccup's partner in adventure is Camicazi, heir to the Bog-Burglar tribe, a hotheaded sword fighter. DreamWorks built Astrid with a new name and a bigger role, and Camicazi never made it to the screen.
