Quick recap

Heiress Linnet Ridgeway steals her best friend Jacqueline de Bellefort's fiancé, Simon Doyle, and marries him. On their Egyptian honeymoon, Jackie follows them everywhere. Poirot, on vacation, boards the same Nile cruise. One night Jackie shoots Simon in the leg in front of witnesses. The next morning Linnet is found shot in the head. With Colonel Race, Poirot sees two more deaths: Linnet's maid and a writer who saw too much. The truth: Simon and Jackie never split up and planned it all together for the money. The leg wound was staged. Cornered, Jackie shoots Simon and then herself.

What changed on screen

  1. Behind the scenesHer own trip

Christie cruised the Nile in 1933 on the steamer Sudan, the same kind of boat as in the book. In 1944 she turned the story into a play without Poirot.

  2. ChangeBouc and the blues

Branagh's 2022 film brings in Bouc, Poirot's friend from the Orient Express, and turns novelist Salome Otterbourne into a blues singer. Neither is like that in the book.
