Quick recap

In King's Landing, Ned Stark serves as Hand of the King and investigates Jon Arryn's death, following clues that lead to Robert's bastard children. At the Wall, Jon Snow finds the Night's Watch is made of thieves and exiles, and learns to lead his fellow recruits. Catelyn seizes Tyrion Lannister, accused of trying to kill Bran, and takes him to the Eyrie, where her sister rules. Among the Dothraki, Daenerys stops being a frightened girl and earns Drogo's respect while Viserys loses his patience. The volume ends with Stark-Lannister tensions about to boil over and Ned closing in on the secret that killed his predecessor.
