Quick recap

In occupied China, Captain Wit O'Toole and Mazer Rackham destroy one of the three landers without approval and end up arrested by Chinese General Sima. Young Bingwen gets them out by spreading the word that they acted on Sima's orders and giving Sima the credit. Victor and Imala sneak aboard the mothership. After an attack they suspect Lem Jukes, but the man behind it was his father, Ukko. Victor draws up a plan to capture the ship and recruits Lem, Wit, Mazer and Wit's unit. When the Formics notice the intruders, they leave Earth to defend the ship. Wit sacrifices himself, and the ship is taken intact. Only then do they learn it was a scout: the real fleet arrives in about five years.
