Seven years later, Gohan is in high school and fights crime as the Great Saiyaman. Goku gets one day back on Earth for the 25th tournament, where he meets his younger son, Goten. The Supreme Kai reveals that the wizard Babidi wants to awaken Majin Buu, and Vegeta lets himself be controlled to fight Goku again. Buu wakes, and Vegeta sacrifices himself without beating him. Goku unveils Super Saiyan 3, teaches Goten and Trunks to fuse, and the monster keeps getting worse. Gohan, Goku and Vegeta try everything, even Potara earring fusion. Trivia
Behind the scenesBibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo
Bibbidi, Babidi and Buu are named after "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" from Disney's Cinderella. Dabura comes from "abracadabra."
Toriyama said Buu versus Gotenks was fun to draw because he could invent odd techniques "in the spirit of gag manga." Buu's look came from the One Thousand and One Nights adaptations he watched as a kid.
Behind the scenesAn ending decided at the last chapter
Toriyama didn't settle on the ending until the final chapter. He first planned a low-key close, then jumped ten years ahead to signal a real finale. For the kanzenban edition he tweaked it to make the passing of the torch clearer.
