Luce Price

In the movie, Luce kisses Trevor, the shadows appear, and a fire kills him. She's blamed for his death and blames herself too. At Sword & Cross, Arriane takes her under her wing, Penn becomes her friend and Molly torments her. The school psychiatrist says she could leave if she agrees to take antipsychotics.

Luce is instantly drawn to Daniel Grigori, who does everything he can to push her away. Cam, on the other hand, moves in without hesitation.

During detention, an angel statue nearly falls on her. At a party in the woods, Molly tries to kill her before Arriane steps in. On Luce's birthday, Cam takes her to a club and they kiss, until Daniel shows up furious.

Suspicious, Luce asks Penn and her friend Todd for help. Using facial recognition, they find an 1854 photo of Luce and Daniel, and she gets a flash of memory. The shadows return, a fire kills Todd, and Daniel pulls her out.

On a rooftop, Daniel tells her they're the cursed couple from the graphic novel he's drawing, and that he's a fallen angel. Every time they kiss, she dies and is reborn. Cam turns up, warns that Lucifer will come for her because she was never baptized, and asks her to choose him.

The real threat is teacher Sophia, who kills Penn and tries to kill Luce before the shadows swallow her. Daniel explains that, unbaptized, Luce's next death would be her last. The two leave together.

In the series, Luce arrives at Sword & Cross accused of something she can't remember. She tries to run, lands in solitary, and starts recalling that she hurt Cam. Suspicious of Dr. Howson, she steals records and photos of procedures the residents don't remember.

With Daniel, she finds out he's been at the school for over 20 years without aging. When an Outcast wounds Daniel, Luce fights her way back to the medical bay to save him.

The shadows show Luce a vision of Penn's death, and she can't stop it. Sophia traps her in a burning library, Daniel saves her, and they make up. Then Sophia drags her to an altar in the woods and demands she choose between light and darkness.

Surrounded by Outcasts, Luce hears from Miriam that if she gets away, the others will live too. The answer is to run toward her fear. She crosses through a rift and reappears alone, in a park.

In Lauren Kate's books, Luce is at the center of all four novels in the saga. Addison Timlin plays her in the 2016 movie; Jessica Alexander, Vanessa in The Little Mermaid (2023), took over for the series.
