Leo Barnes is the hero of films two and three. A Los Angeles cop who lost his son, he goes from a man seeking revenge to the bodyguard of a candidate who wants to end the Purge. Frank Grillo plays him.
A year earlier, drunk driver Warren Grass hit Leo's son, Nicholas, and was acquitted. Leo heads out armed to kill him, but meets Eva and Cali and protects them. In the end he is shot by Big Daddy and spares Warren.
In 2040 Leo is firmly anti-Purge and heads Senator Charlie Roan's security. Betrayed by colleagues, he is wounded and sets off a bomb that kills the traitors. He flees with Roan across Washington, removes the bullet tracking them and fights Danzinger.
Wikipedia records that Frank Grillo debuts in the series in Anarchy and returns in Election Year. DeMonaco said in 2021 the story of the sixth film would again include Grillo.
