Landon meets Tessa in class and shares some news: Hardin's father is marrying his mother, Karen, so the two of them are about to become stepbrothers. He and Tessa hit it off right away. One night, when a drunk Hardin wrecks the house, Landon is the one who calls her for help.

At Ken and Karen's wedding, Landon officially becomes Hardin's stepbrother. That's the party where Hardin tells Tessa about the Scott family's past.

Landon spends a weekend with the family at the lake house, along with Tessa and Hardin, who starts to open up to his relatives. Now played by Chance Perdomo, he's still the steady one between the two of them.

The weekend doesn't end well. At dinner, Hardin runs into an old friend, Lillian, Tessa gets jealous and flirts with the waiter, and the couple leaves early, leaving Landon and the family behind.

When Tessa finds her father dead, Landon calls dozens of times until Hardin picks up. He goes to the funeral and, at a family dinner, says goodbye before leaving for school in New York, where Nora lives. Tessa decides to go with him, and a hurt Hardin nearly takes a swing at Landon.

In New York, Landon shares a place with Tessa. When Hardin comes for work, Landon puts him up and arranges for the two to come face to face at the restaurant where she works. Meanwhile, he starts dating Nora.

Landon marries Nora and asks Hardin to be his best man. Tessa is the maid of honor. His wedding is where the two of them meet again after more than two years.

The invitation reaches Hardin in Lisbon while he's at rock bottom, and it's what makes him stay and start writing again. At the reception, Hardin even bribes his little half-brother to ask Tessa to dance, just so he can cut in.
