Tessa takes in her father, Richard, which makes Hardin suspicious. She wants to move to Seattle, where Vance Publishing is expanding; he had dreamed of London after graduation. On a weekend at the family lake house, their jealousy ruins everything. Once in Seattle, Tessa goes days without talking to him, until Hardin reads her journal, apologizes and takes up boxing to manage his anger. She learns she may not be able to have children. They fly to London for Trish's wedding, and the night before, Hardin catches his mother with Christian Vance. After the ceremony, at a bar, Vance tells him the truth: he is Hardin's biological father.
