Juliette Nichols

Juliette is an engineer in Mechanical, on Silo 18's deepest levels. When her boyfriend, George Wilkins, turns up dead, she doesn't believe it was suicide, and no one listens. Before he goes out to clean, Sheriff Holston names Juliette as his replacement. She takes the job to investigate.

On the job she loses Mayor Jahns and Deputy Marnes, killed by people who want the questions to stop. With help from Lukas Kyle, an IT tech who likes to watch the stars, she finds George's hard drive and learns that Bernard Holland, head of IT, is the one really running the Silo. Juliette is arrested, escapes and makes peace with her father, Dr. Pete Nichols. Sent out to clean, she leaves in a suit her friends in Mechanical prepared. Instead of cleaning, she walks over the hill and sees the world as it is, with other silos on the horizon.

Juliette reaches Silo 17, a dead silo, with bodies everywhere and its lower levels flooded. Solo lives inside. He greets her with suspicion and tells her there are dozens of silos. Together they try to reach a firefighter suit and get the water pump running again. On the dive, Juliette nearly drowns.

Later, an arrow from a group of young people who also survived there wounds her, and she ends up making peace with them. Determined to warn Silo 18 about what she learned, Juliette heads home. In the airlock she finds Bernard, and the fire engulfs them both.

Months later, Juliette has survived and been elected mayor of Silo 18. But she can't remember what she saw outside. Camille Sims, the new head of IT, keeps her on pills that wipe her memory, on the Algorithm's orders. An anonymous note tells her to look for the truth. Juliette stops taking the pills and is poisoned in the mines.

With help from her friends in Mechanical, she goes down to the bottom of the Silo and finds Bernard alive and badly scarred. Relics from the past, like George's watch, bring her memories back. She sends Lukas and Patrick Kennedy to Silo 17 to find the Safeguard pipe and gets back in touch with Solo over the radio. Bernard dies to buy time, Knox and Shirley clamp the pipe, and Camille switches sides. In the end, Juliette decides Silo 1 has to fall.
