Daniel Grigori

In the movie, Daniel watches Luce arrive and makes a point of keeping his distance. At the party in the woods, she feels a strong pull toward him, and he keeps pushing her away. He hears from teacher Sophia that Cam may be behind the statue that nearly hit Luce, and that she's in danger because she was never baptized.

Even so, he follows Luce and shows her the graphic novel he's drawing: a cursed couple where the girl dies with every kiss and is reborn, while the boy never ages.

Daniel breaks up Luce and Cam at the club and accuses his rival of running with Lucifer. When the library fire kills Todd, he's the one who pulls Luce out. On the rooftop, he tells her the truth: they're the couple from the graphic novel, and he's a fallen angel.

Daniel leaves Luce with Sophia and goes after Cam. Her scream brings him back in time to protect her from Sophia, the real threat. In the end, he warns that Lucifer will come for her and takes her somewhere safe.

In the series, Daniel feels he knows Luce but can't say from where. At first he refuses to help her, stepping in only when she gets into trouble. They grow closer and break into a restricted room in the medical bay.

The files show he's been at Sword & Cross for over 20 years without aging, like the other residents, and that Dr. Howson has been experimenting on them. During an escape, an Outcast wounds him. Unconscious on the operating table, he relives his past with Luce.

Once he recovers, Daniel pushes Luce away, afraid she'll die young if she stays with him. After Penn's death, he confronts Miriam, rescues Luce from the burning library, and they make up. Miriam apologizes for not being honest and warns that once the Veil is closed, the world will be hell on earth. Daniel says he's ready.

When Sophia takes Luce into the woods, he fights through the Outcasts to reach her. He ends the season in the woods, facing a rift of blinding light.

In the books, Daniel is Luce's great love and appears in all four novels. Jeremy Irvine, of War Horse, plays him in the movie; Dutch actor Gijs Blom took over for the series.
