Dalton Lambert

Before any of it, Elise Rainier, lost in the Further, opens the wrong door and comes face to face with a ten-year-old boy in an attic: Dalton. She leaves without closing it.

Soon after the move, Dalton climbs into the attic, falls off the ladder and sees something. The next day he won't wake up. It isn't a coma: he leaves his body in his sleep, thinking he's dreaming, and this time he went too far. He's trapped in the Further, and a red-faced demon wants his empty body. Dalton leaves drawings of what he saw. His father goes into the Further and brings him back.

At his grandmother's house, Dalton hears his dad talking to someone who isn't there and dreams of a woman in white. His father is possessed and ends up attacking the family. Dalton hides in the basement with his mom and brother and, on his own, goes into the Further to help. He leads Josh and Carl back, and his dad gets his body back. Afterward, Dalton's memories are wiped too.

Nine years later, Dalton is 19 and things with his dad are terrible. In his first college art class, he paints a red door without knowing why. At a party he sees a student's ghost. A Specs and Tucker video online explains how to leave your body, and he tries it. The red-faced demon comes back and traps him in its lair. Josh goes into the Further and frees him. Back home, Dalton paints over the picture in black, and the real door closes. In the end he shows his dad a painting of Josh carrying him out of the Further.
