Quick recap

In 1982, cult leader Nix is killed, bound in an iron mask and buried in the Mojave. Thirteen years later, New York private eye Harry D'Amour takes an insurance case in Los Angeles and ends up hired by Dorothea Swann to protect her husband, illusionist Philip Swann. Philip dies on stage, but Harry learns his magic is real and the death was staged. Butterfield, Nix's disciple, steals his master's body and brings him back. Out in the desert, Nix opens a chasm that swallows the cult and reveals he wants to end the world. Harry saves Dorothea, Philip helps land the final blow and dies, and Nix falls into molten rock.
