Rhage seems to have it all: Mary, the Brotherhood, the beast under control. Inside, though, he feels a panic and insecurity he can't explain. Mary, who works at a shelter for abuse victims, grows close to Bitty, a little girl who just lost her mother. Rhage is nearly killed in battle and, coming back, realizes what's missing: being a father, something that seemed out of reach for them. The Lessening Society grows stronger, and the Brotherhood readies an all-out strike. In the end, Rhage and Mary adopt Bitty.
