Derya (Özgü Namal) and Aziz (Tansu Biçer) are a theater couple in Turkey. They've just opened a play, and for a moment things look good. Soon after, they both lose their jobs. The reason is political: the couple becomes a target of the state, and the pressure comes fast.
Without work, their life starts to shrink. The income goes, and with it the home and the routine they had built. The pressure from outside seeps into the marriage, and each of them handles it differently. Their daughter, Ezgi (Leyla Smyrna Cabas), watches all of it up close.
Yellow Letters (German title Gelbe Briefe) is the new film from İlker Çatak, director of the Oscar-nominated The Teachers' Lounge. He wrote it with Ayda Çatak and Enis Köstepen. The story is set in Ankara and Istanbul, but it was shot in Hamburg and Berlin, which stand in for the two Turkish cities.
