Plot

Denmark, shortly after the end of World War II. The country has just come out of five years of Nazi occupation and is trying to get back to normal. Marie (Mathilde Arcel) is young and works as a nanny and housemaid for Christian (Carsten Bjørnlund), a wealthy employer.

Her life is about to switch sides. Marie is set to marry Christian and leave the servant's room behind. But she carries a secret from the occupation years, and that past could bring everything down before the wedding. The closer she gets to the altar, the bigger the risk that someone pulls the thread.

Woman Unknown (original title Kvinde, ukendt) is the new feature from May el-Toukhy, who wrote the script with Maren Louise Käehne. The Danish director broke through abroad with Queen of Hearts in 2019. This time she trades the present for a period drama in Danish, with a cast that also includes Thorbjørn Hedegaard and Marina Bouras.
