Chile, 1973, shortly before the military coup. In Santiago, MJ (Steve Buscemi), the CIA's chief in the country, sends two of his men to Easter Island. Chris (John Malkovich) is a veteran with terminal cancer and the longtime mentor of Lee (Sam Rockwell), his partner of many years.
Far from the capital, in the middle of the Pacific, the two have to face the conspiracies they've been caught up in, the old ones and the ones still in motion. They've known each other forever, and that doesn't make the trip any easier. On top of that, Chris grows close to two rebellious students, Monica and Alicia, and that bond threatens to knock the mission off course.
Wild Horse Nine is Martin McDonagh's first film since The Banshees of Inisherin. It's a dark satire dressed as an action thriller, built on a real historical backdrop. Tom Waits plays Chris's brother, and Parker Posey plays Marge, Lee's wife.
