An arsonist is burning vampires in St. Louis, and the police call Anita. At the same time, members of the Vampire Council, the most powerful vampires in the world, arrive in town to make Jean-Claude answer for the death of one of their own. The visit puts Jean-Claude, Richard and everyone who depends on them at risk. Anita also has to look after the wereleopards, left leaderless and unprotected, and takes that on. Between the fire case, dangerous diplomacy with the Council and her shaky relationship with Richard, she has to save the vampire she should be hunting, and herself. It has scenes of violence and torture.
