Quick recap

Right after Aliens, the Sulaco, with Ripley, Hicks, Newt and Bishop in cryosleep, drifts into Union of Progressive Peoples territory and is boarded. Ripley is sidelined in a coma, and Corporal Hicks becomes the heart of the story. Pieces of Bishop and samples tied to the creatures end up in rival hands, and both powers, locked in a cold war in space, try to turn the aliens into a weapon. Hicks lands on a huge station built like a shopping mall, where military science lets the outbreak spiral out of control. The volume ends with Hicks and a small band of survivors fighting to escape the creature-overrun station.
