The giants are still in Florida, and the Vargas kids need help. They track down Noseeum Jack, an old giant hunter, and learn from him how to take on creatures that big. The giants fight near the houses, and Jack gets hurt. The kids capture Sandspur, an odd little creature who knows more than he says. To fix things, they strike a deal with the mermaids: the mermaids lure the giants away, and in return they want a fish. The book closes with the giants gone for now and questions about what they're after.
