Quick recap

The seeress Skade foretells Alfred's fall. Gisela dies in childbirth, and a grieving Uhtred breaks with the king. On the Danish side, Haesten, Cnut and the Viking Bloodhair join forces, while Alfred's nephew Æthelwold plots for the throne. Ragnar the Younger is murdered in his sleep, and Brida is left adrift. Ailing, Alfred readies his son Edward and makes peace with Uhtred before he dies. With Edward on the throne, the Danes attack. In the final battle Uhtred kills Æthelwold, and the season closes with the new king secure and Uhtred free to think about Bebbanburg again.
