Quick recap

On the way to the Calla, the group shelters from a starkblast, and Roland tells a story from his youth. He and Jamie go to Debaria to hunt a skin-man killing locals. They tie the creature to a salt miner, and young Bill, the lone survivor of an attack, identifies the killer by a tattoo. To calm the boy, Roland tells another story: Tim Ross loses his father, his mother marries the brutal Bern Kells and goes blind. The Covenant Man promises a cure if Tim goes into the woods. Tim crosses the swamp and gets the remedy from the wizard Maerlyn. His mother sees again and kills Kells with her late husband's ax. Roland kills the skin-man with a silver bullet and receives a letter from his mother.
