Quick recap

Roland, the last gunslinger, chases the man in black across the desert. In the town of Tull he walks into a trap and has to kill every resident after a preacher turns them against him. At an abandoned way station he finds Jake, a boy who was hit by a car in New York and woke up there. Flashbacks show Roland's youth in Gilead and his early duel with his teacher, Cort. Under the mountains, on a collapsing trestle, Roland lets Jake fall so he won't lose the man in black. On the other side, the sorcerer reads Roland's fate in cards, says he was once Marten and shows him the vastness of the universe to scare him off. Roland won't quit. He wakes ten years later beside a skeleton and walks on to the Western Sea.
