Quick recap

Romania, 1952. A nun hangs herself at the Cârța abbey, and the Vatican sends Father Burke and novice Irene to investigate. Their guide is Frenchie, the young man who found the body. At the abbey, they learn the nuns prayed nonstop to keep a demon, Valak, locked away. It got out and now takes the shape of a nun. Burke is buried alive, Irene has visions and Frenchie comes back to help. Using a relic holding the blood of Christ, Irene drives the demon out and the gateway is sealed. But Frenchie, whose name is Maurice, has an inverted cross on his neck. Twenty years later, the Warrens show his exorcism at a lecture.
