Quick recap

Summer 1812. French colonel Leroux tortures a priest, learns the name of the British spy El Mirador and surrenders to Sharpe under a false identity. Released on parole, he kills the boy escorting him and flees to the Salamanca forts. In Salamanca, Sharpe meets La Marquesa and Captain Lord Jack Spears. The first assault on the forts fails, the second works, and Leroux, disguised as a wounded man, shoots Sharpe in the stomach in the hospital. Left for dead, Sharpe is saved by Harper and recovers. He works out that El Mirador is Father Curtis and feeds false information to the marquesa, Leroux's sister. After the victory at Salamanca, Spears confesses his betrayal and asks to be shot. Sharpe kills Leroux in a duel and throws his sword in the river.
