Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Alice and Matt escape the Hive, but are captured. The zombies reach Raccoon City, and Umbrella seals it off. Alice wakes in an empty hospital and meets Jill Valentine, Carlos Olivera and Nicholai, among other survivors. Umbrella unleashes Nemesis to eliminate the S.T.A.R.S. Dr. Ashford offers evacuation in return for rescuing his daughter, Angela. The group finds her, but Alice learns Nemesis is Matt, mutated by Umbrella. He turns on the soldiers and dies protecting Alice. A nuclear warhead destroys the city, and Alice sacrifices herself for Angela. She wakes in a lab with new powers and escapes with Carlos, Jill, L.J. and Angela. Dr. Isaacs says the escape was part of the plan.

1. Behind the scenesAnderson wrote it but didn't direct

   Paul W. S. Anderson was busy with Alien vs. Predator and handed directing to Alexander Witt, who was making his feature debut. Anderson stayed on as writer and producer.

2. ReferenceBuilt on the third game

   The script uses Resident Evil 3: Nemesis as its base and borrows from films Anderson loves, like the perimeter wall of Escape from New York and the empty city of The Omega Man.

3. CameoJill and Carlos arrive

   Sienna Guillory plays Jill Valentine and Oded Fehr plays Carlos Oliveira. Milla Jovovich is the only cast member to repeat a role from the first film.
