Quick recap

Right after, Darrow reaches Mercury, where Atalantia has the Republic's legions under siege. The siege turns into a massacre, with millions of civilians dead, and Darrow has to make harder and harder calls. On Luna, Virginia tries to hold the Republic together, but an assassination attempt and a massacre wreck her alliances, and Lilath, queen of the Syndicate, steps out of the shadows. Virginia escapes; Sevro is taken prisoner. On Mars, the Obsidian queen Sefi dies and Volsung Fá takes over her people, while Lyria and Volga run. In the end, the Republic loses Mercury. Lysander, allied first with the Rim and then with Apollonius, sets out to restore the Society with himself as Sovereign.
