Quick recap

King Philippe of Gallica comes to Araluen asking for help. Baron Lassigny is holding Prince Giles at the Chateau des Falaises and swears the boy is there of his own free will. The price of his freedom is a neighboring fief whose baron just died. Duncan agrees to help: for Araluen, a strong Lassigny is more dangerous than a weak king. Will and Maddie set out disguised as a father-and-daughter act, him as a jongleur, her as a knife thrower. On the road they deal with bandits, a gang called the Black Vultures and someone trailing them. At the castle, Maddie has to find out where Giles is held. The rescue attempt goes wrong, and the book ends on a cliffhanger, with both of them in Lassigny's hands.
