Quick recap

Will, Horace and the Ranger Gilan travel to Celtica and find the villages empty. Gilan rides back to warn King Duncan, and the two boys follow a Wargal force. Along the way they meet Evanlyn, who is really Princess Cassandra. The three discover Morgarath is building a bridge across the Fissure to trap the king's army on the Plains of Uthal. Will burns the bridge, but he and Evanlyn are captured by Skandians. In the battle, Horace challenges Morgarath to single combat and kills him. With their master gone, the Wargals stop being a threat. Halt arrives too late: the Skandians have already sailed off with Will and Cassandra to sell them as slaves.
