Quick recap

A retelling of the start of the journey, outside the series' continuity. Ash oversleeps on his tenth birthday and gets a Pikachu that wants nothing to do with him, until it defends him from a flock of Spearow. The two see Ho-Oh, which drops a Rainbow Wing, and Ash promises to find it someday. Instead of Misty and Brock, he travels with Verity and Sorrel. Ash rescues a Charmander abandoned by the cruel Cross, raises a Caterpie into Butterfree and later lets it go. On Mount Tensei, the wing is corrupted and Marshadow attacks. Ash nearly fades away for good, but comes back thanks to Pikachu and finally battles Ho-Oh.
