Quick recap

Apollo lands in a New York dumpster. Zeus turned him into a mortal teenager, Lester Papadopoulos, and he barely remembers why. A girl named Meg McCaffrey saves him from two muggers and claims him as her servant. The two head to Camp Half-Blood with help from Percy, where the Oracle of Delphi can no longer give prophecies and campers keep vanishing in the woods. Apollo and Meg uncover a secret company that wants to control the world's oracles, and Apollo has to complete trials to return to Olympus. The first-person narration is the god himself, and the chapter titles are bad haiku.

What changed on screen

  1. Behind the scenesThe idea came from a guide

Riordan says he thought of a mortal Apollo while writing Percy Jackson's Greek Gods, when he found two myths of Zeus punishing the god. Chapter titles are bad haiku, because Apollo is the god of poetry.

  2. Behind the scenesStraight to the top

The book sold over 62,000 copies in its first week and ranked No. 1 on the New York Times list. Barnes & Noble bundled in a letter from Apollo to Zeus.
