On the first day of high school, Percy meets Rachel Dare, a mortal who can see through the Mist. Together they escape two empousai disguised as cheerleaders. At camp, Annabeth and Percy find an entrance to the Labyrinth, which grows under the whole country and could take Luke's army straight to the campers. Annabeth is given the quest to find Daedalus before Luke does. Percy, Tyson, Grover, Annabeth and Rachel face shifting passages, Hephaestus and Calypso's island. The final battle reaches camp, and Ariadne's string is the key to the invasion.
