Quick recap

Luffy reaches Wano apart from his crew and meets Tama, a girl from Kuri who goes hungry while Kaido's factories poison the rivers. Zoro meets the courtesan Komurasaki, the others are already living undercover, and Kin'emon lays out the plan: gather rebels and raid Onigashima during the Fire Festival, as Toki foretold 20 years ago. Luffy takes down Holdem, one of Kaido's men, then faces Kaido himself, who knocks him out with a single blow. The act ends with Luffy locked in Udon prison, sharing a cell with Kid, both swearing revenge.

Hidden details

  1. ReferenceA closed country like old Japan

Wano bans outsiders and punishes anyone who tries to leave, much like Edo-period Japan. Samurai, chonmage topknots and the bushido code complete the feel.

  2. Behind the scenesOver the Top, sung by Kitadani

The opening Over the Top is sung by Hiroshi Kitadani, the voice of We Are!. A fitting start for the anime's longest arc.

  3. ReferenceThe former Country of Gold

Wano was once called the Country of Gold, back when the Kozuki family ruled. What's left is land wrecked by weapons manufacturing.
