An adaptation of the Shikamaru novel. He leads a secret mission into the Land of Silence to capture Gengo, a leader who takes over ninja's minds and turns them into loyal followers. Sai, who went in ahead, turns up on the enemy's side. Shikamaru feels Gengo's pull too, but holds out. Ino, Chōji and Temari arrive as backup, and the group defeats Gengo and takes him into custody. The story takes place about two years after the war, with Shikamaru already serving as Hokage Kakashi's right hand.
