Quick recap

Konoha holds a memorial for those who died in the Fourth Shinobi World War, and Mugino shares his past before leaving on a secret mission. Victor's plan goes wrong when his airship goes down, and Kara's Koji Kashin finishes him off. At the site, Team 7 finds an unconscious boy with the same mark on his hand as Boruto. Ao, a ninja enhanced with tools, is ordered to retrieve the boy and hunts the team. Mugino gives his life to bury Ao in a cave, but Ao survives. In the final clash, Boruto beats Ao by using ninja tools wisely and spares him.

Hidden details

  1. SetupThe boy from ep. 1

The mysterious prisoner in this arc is Kawaki, the same name as the young man Boruto faces in the very first episode's opening scene. Seeing them meet changes the weight of that scene.

  2. ReferenceTwo similar marks

Kawaki has a mark on his hand very much like the Karma Momoshiki left on Boruto's. The two marks are connected, and that pulls the rest of the story along.
