Quick recap

Colonel Protheroe, the most hated man in St. Mary Mead, is found shot dead in the study of the vicar, Leonard Clement. There's no shortage of suspects. The painter Lawrence Redding confesses, then the colonel's wife, Anne, confesses too, each seemingly to protect the other. They're lovers, and the confessions seem to clear them both. Miss Marple, the vicar's neighbor, isn't fooled. She shows that Lawrence and Anne planned it together, with fake timings and a staged shot to build alibis. Inspector Slack, who scorned her help, arrests the couple on the plan she uncovered.
