Quick recap

L.A. County Sheriff's Detective Stilwell has been pulled off the mainland homicide desk and sent to Catalina Island, where almost nothing happens. Then a young woman's body turns up in the harbor, wrapped in an anchor chain, her only mark the purple streaks in her hair. She was a hostess at the exclusive Black Marlin Club, where a statue has just gone missing. Meanwhile, an illegally beheaded buffalo on the island's preserve points Stilwell to a powerful local's past. Distrustful of the mainland investigators and an old rival, he risks more discipline to work both cases himself and uncovers the secrets beneath the island's calm.
