Full story

I Am Groot is a collection of animated shorts, a few minutes each and with no real dialogue, about Baby Groot after Guardians of the Galaxy, when he is still a sprout living on the Guardians' ship. Each short tells a small self-contained adventure full of slapstick, and Groot almost always creates a bigger mess than the problem he started with. There is no running plot: the fun is in the standalone episodes.

Season 1 has five shorts. In "Groot's First Steps," he gets jealous of a bonsai, fights the little plant, breaks his own pot, and takes his first steps. In "The Little Guy," he finds a civilization of tiny blue creatures, accidentally becomes their god, and ends up stepping on them. In "Groot's Pursuit," a shapeshifting alien copies him, the two dance together, and then Groot tosses the visitor into space. In "Groot Takes a Bath," a mud bath makes leaves sprout all over his body and he tries out different hairstyles. In "Magnum Opus," he gathers stuff from the ship to make an artwork honoring the Guardians, causes an explosion, and saves Rocket from being sucked into space.

Season 2 brings five more. In "Are You My Groot?," he adopts an alien egg and raises the hatchling, which is gross and destructive, until its real family shows up. In "Groot Noses Around," he gets a fake nose to sniff out batteries for his game controller. In "Groot's Snow Day," he builds a robot snowman that turns on the ship, and he beats it by aiming for its weak spot. In "Groot's Sweet Treat," he finds some money, chases an ice cream ship, crashes, and ends up happily eating what is left.

The final short, "Groot and the Great Prophecy," is narrated by the Watcher. Groot lands on a planet where the locals treat him as the chosen one of a prophecy, and he has to protect a sacred seed in a collapsing temple. The seed falls into lava, but Groot comes out of the adventure with fresh leaves. The shorts never touch the main MCU story and work as a light break, with no loose ends.
