Full story

Years ago in New Orleans, the Roxxon Gulf Platform exploded. That same night two kids fell into the river: Tandy Bowen, who lost her father in the accident, and Tyrone Johnson, who had just watched a cop kill his brother, Billy. The energy from the blast bonded them. Now teenagers from opposite worlds, they cross paths again and discover their powers. Tandy makes daggers of light and sees people's hopes. Tyrone teleports wrapped in shadow and sees their fears.

Season 1 ties the two mysteries together. Tandy runs small cons and wants to prove Roxxon buried her father's work. Tyrone wants justice against Detective James Connors, who killed Billy and is now framing him for another cop's death. The trail leads to scientist Mina Hess and a company secret: the platform leak threatens the city. When the gas spreads, it turns people into prisoners of their own terrors. Detective Brigid O'Reilly is shot by Connors and falls into the contaminated water.

By the end of Season 1, Tyrone swallows Connors into the shadows and takes him off the board. Tandy and Tyrone learn their powers work better together, and they use that bond to send the gas into the sky and save New Orleans. Even so, Tyrone is still wanted by the police and ends up hiding in a church.

Season 2 opens with Tyrone on the run and Tandy trying to help women who are vanishing around the city. Brigid has come back split in two: the by-the-book cop and Mayhem, a violent vigilante. The big villain is Andre Deschaine, a former jazz musician who feeds on other people's despair and runs a ring trafficking women. Evita, who knows the traditions of the Loa, helps Tyrone understand the spiritual side of the story.

In the end, Andre becomes D'Spayre and traps people in a shadow dimension. Tandy and Tyrone go in, fill the victims with hope and beat Andre together, finally in their own costumes. Brigid and Mayhem help clear Tyrone's name using Connors's body. The series ends with the two of them on a bus, holding hands, leaving New Orleans to chase a new lead. That comes back later.
