Quick recap

Two years later, Riggs and Murtaugh stumble on an illegal shipment of Krugerrand gold coins and end up guarding Leo Getz, a federal witness who never stops talking. Leo explains how the gang launders drug money, and the suspects hide behind South African consul Arjen Rudd, who invokes diplomatic immunity. Riggs falls for Rudd's secretary, Rika, and learns that security agent Vorstedt had a hand in the death of his wife. The hunt runs from Murtaugh's house to the Port of Los Angeles, where the consul's immunity gets revoked.

Hidden details

  1. Behind the scenesPlay Dirty, the rejected script

Shane Black and novelist Warren Murphy wrote the first sequel script, called Play Dirty. The producer, studio and director found it too dark and bloody, and in it Riggs died at the end. Jeffrey Boam wrote the version that was shot.

  2. CameoLeo Getz started as a bit part

In Black's draft, Leo Getz was a minor character with a single scene and few lines. In the final version he became the chatterbox witness who sticks to Riggs and Murtaugh.
